Wright family papers include correspondence (1854-1904), including letters (1861-1864) to William Wilmot Wright from his brother George Washington Wright, a lieutenant in the 12th Alabama Infantry; military passes, exemptions and applications (1863-1865); papers (1860-1871) concerning Macon County schools; land deeds (1825-1905); tax receipts (1847-1913); business papers (1840-1913), including account books, contracts, correspondence, promissory notes, wills and estate papers, and receipts. Papers of John Peavy Wright include research material on voting patterns (1900-1950); and genealogical correspondence and notes (1956-1970).

Samuel Wright moved to Macon County, Alabama, from Georgia in 1836. His children and grandchildren farmed in Macon and Lee Counties. John Peavy Wright, his grandson, was born in Lee County, Alabama, in 1898. After graduating with a B.S. degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, he received a Ph.
